Gihachiro Okuyama - Japanese Modernist Woodblock Print

Overview: Up for sale is this fantastic and rare woodblock print by Gihachiro Okuyama (1907-1981). Okuyama was a prolific print artist from Sagae, Yamagata. His major background was from print advertising, but starting in the 1950''s, he shifted toward producing original prints. This print is entitled "Japan Alps," and depicts a small snow-covered village in the Japanese alps. It is matted and tipped at the top edge to the matting. Title and signature (unsure if this is original to the artist, but it is common on Okuyama''s prints) at lower right, along with ''30, which may indicate a 1930 date. Okuyama''s seal is at lower right. Print is unframed.

Condition: Print is in excellent condition. Part of the bottom left corner of the back of the matting is torn.

Measurements: Print measures approximately 7.75 inches wide x 5.375 inches high. Matting is approximately 10.625 inches wide x 7.5 inches high.
